<Tools> tells the visual trauma of disease.

As a child, the artist had experience searching the Internet for diseases suffered by family and acquaintances. In addition, visual data of a very realistic but difficult-to-face disease, such as a patient receiving abnormal wounds and treatment, were witnessed through image search. So the scary and disgusting appearance of the disease that he saw at that time remained a trauma to remind him of the fear that a family history of disease could also occur in my body and the helplessness that he might not be aware of the outbreak.

Surgical drape is a tool that can face the disease in the body through the hole, and at the same time, it is a dual tool that can cover the body with a cloth around the hole. Using this, the artist creates an object that seals the image of the searched disease after sewing two layers of surgical cloth together. By selecting whether to remove sewing, objects that can independently select the outer surface and direct view toward the internal image become tools to counter visual trauma.

<도구>는 질병에 대한 시각적 트라우마를 이야기한다.

어린 시절 작가는 가족과 지인이 겪은 질병을 인터넷으로 검색했던 경험이 있다. 그리고 기형적인 상처와 치료를 받는 환자의 모습처럼 매우 현실적이지만 마주보기 어려운 질병의 시각자료를 이미지 검색으로 목격하고 말았다. 그래서 그때 보았던 무섭고 징그러운 질병의 모습은 가족력이 강한 질병이 나 자신의 몸에도 생길 수 있다는 두려움과 그러한 발병 여부를 스스로 알아차리지 못할 수도 있다는 무력감을 상기시키는 트라우마로 남게 되었다.

수술포는 구멍을 통해 몸 안의 병을 직시할 수 있는 도구임과 동시에 수술포 구멍 주위의 천으로 몸을 가릴 수도 있는 이중적인 도구이다. 이를 이용해서 작가는 두 겹의 수술포를 겹쳐 바느질한 뒤 검색된 질병의 이미지를 봉인시킨 오브제를 제작한다. 바느질 제거 여부를 선택함으로써 내부의 이미지를 향한 외면과 직시를 주체적으로 선택할 수 있는 오브제는 시각적 트라우마를 대항하기 위한 도구가 된다.
